Police name woman whose son died after being left in hot car

Pembroke Pines police released the name of a woman whose 17-month-old son died last week after she left the boy inside her car while she worked for more than eight hours.

Police said 34-year-old Emily Bird, of Fort Lauderdale, told investigators that she thought she had dropped her son, Eli, off at day care, but instead the boy remained in the car's back seat with the windows closed.

When she left work, Bird discovered she had left her son and called for medical help, police said. Eli was rushed...
