Whales, dolphins & porpoises will no longer be kept at Vancouver’s aquarium, move that animal advocates say is step toward end of cetaceans in captivity. Aquarium announced it’s ending display of cetaceans following long & controversial battle with animal activists & city’s park board over issue.

Marineland in Niagara Falls, Ont., is believed to be the only other Canadian facility with cetaceans. Vancouver Humane Society official said he hopes the Vancouver Aquarium’s decision will encourage Marineland to phase out their whale and dolphin program, too.
