Vermilion Parish is finally set to benefit from the Acadiana Gulf of Mexico Access Channel (AGMAC), more than two decades after it was first discussed. A contract has been awarded to begin deepening the navigational channel for a 20-mile stretch from the intersection of the Intracoastal Canal down Freshwater Bayou to the Freshwater Bayou Locks.
