Leprosy is the oldest disease known to be associated with humans.

Evidence of leprosy has been found as far back as 2000 BC.

It's caused by an infection resulting in skin lesions, nerve damage, disfigurement, and disability.

Leprosy was first brought to Brazil over 500 years ago by the European explorers, and was transmitted to Armadillos that came in contact with humans.
