US debt sits at $21 trillion — in just a few years the US will be paying more in interest to pay down the national debt than on the military or Medicare.

Republicans, such as House Speaker Paul Ryan and President Trump, have been at the forefront of condemning the rising US debt and promising tax cuts. 

Yet spending has increased under Trump and Ryan, and Republican tax cuts have blown a bigger hole in the budget.
