Federal agency fines SF school, founder $164,000, alleging they tricked students

BloomTech, a once-buzzy coding boot camp that offered students the chance to pay their tuition using earnings from a future job, was hit Wednesday with a $64,235 fine by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The San Francisco company’s founder, Austen Allred, has to pay $100,000. Previously known as Lambda School, BloomTech has for years been accused of exaggerating students’ success rates and misleading students about its payment policies.
