Biotech company lays off over a hundred Bay Area workers

BioMarin Pharmaceutical, a San Rafael-based biotech company specializing in drugs for genetic disorders, is laying off swaths of its Bay Area staff. The company is letting go of 170 total employees, according to a Tuesday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Per a WARN notice filed in California, at least 117 of those people work in the Bay Area.
