A murder investigation is under way after a man died following a suspected assault in Sunderland. At around 8.40am yesterday (Wednesday, April 24) officers received a report of a serious assault on Lily Street, in Millfield. Emergency services attended the scene and a man, aged 40, was taken to hospital with serious injuries consistent with having been assaulted with a blunt instrument.
