Alderman looks to strip mayor’s authority to cancel ShotSpotter

(The Center Square) – Chicago Ald. David Moore is fighting to strip Mayor Brandon Johnson of his unilateral authority to end the city’s contract with the ShotSpotter gunfire detection program. With Johnson already on record with his plan to completely phase out the program by year’s end, Moore is now proposing legislation that would require a full City Council vote before the city can take any such action, or even end funding for any of the city’s violence prevention programs. ...
