Maria Sakkari ousts No. 1 seed at San Jose tennis tournament

Maria Sakkari bounced back from a tough first set to knock off top-seeded Elina Svitolina 1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3 on Friday in the Silicon Valley Classic at San Jose State.

The 24-year-old Sakkari, who has one career tournament title on the WTA Tour since turning pro in 2015, advanced to the semifinals to face China's Saisai Zheng, who topped American Amanda Anisimova 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in Friday's late match.
